Summon Help

The absolute most important thing in any serious injury or medical condition is to summon help. Use the panic buttons at the alarm panels (pick "Fire") or hold down one of the stand-alone panic buttons in the woodshop or metal shop / machine shop. Alternatively you can call 911 - the building addresses are at the alarm panels.

EMS should be able to be at our location within 4-10 minutes depending on which station responds and traffic.

First Aid Kits

There are first aid kits in multiple locations within the space. If you notice that any need more supplies, let us know.

The only medication we provide is Benedryl for allergic reactions, located in the 4931 kitchen first aid kit.

Eye Wash Stations

There are eye wash stations in multiple locations. If you think you have something in your eye, please use the eye wash kits. They expire and need to be replaced anyways.

Bleeding Control Kits

For traumatic injuries, there are two Bleeding Control Kits, located in the woodshop and in 4931 above the tool cabinets / safety station. These have gloves, EMT shears for cutting away clothing, gauze dressings, and a tourniquet.

With any serious bleeding, key points are:

  • Call for help
  • Apply pressure to the wound (except eye wounds or suspected skull fractures)
  • Elevate the wound above heart level
  • Have the injured person lie down and elevate their legs if possible to help prevent shock

AEDs

We have two AEDs (Automatic External Defibrillators) for cardiac emergencies. They are located just inside the front doors of 4931 and 4935. If you think someone is possibly having a cardiac issue, please call for help and use these devices. If you have another person tell them to "grab the red AED bag next to the front door".

To use the AED, open the case and press the power button. It will speak voice instructions. There are contact pads in the upper half of the case.

Each AED has a secondary pouch attached with a few additional supplies: a CPR mask for rescue breaths, EMT shears if you need to cut away clothing, gloves, a safety razor if hair prevents attaching the contact pads, and paper towels if moisture prevents applying the pads.
